The Carlsberg Pancyprian Official Beauty Contest is the only legal and official beauty contest in Cyprus and is conducted in cooperation with international organisations.

The institution of beauty contest is a very ancient institution, of Greek origin and has a worldwide appeal. Our ancient ancestors were the first to invent the institution of beauty contest, because they attached great importance to beauty and worshipped it as the ideal expression of all that is good.  Paris was the first to give the apple of beauty to Aphrodite, the Goddess of Beauty and Love.

It was only natural that Cyprus, the country which gave birth to, and worshipped, Aphrodite, the Goddess of Beauty should adopt this beautiful institution.  The first modern Pancyprian Beauty Contest took place in 1956 at Acropol Hotel and were at the time described as the biggest social event of the year.  At times other similar events were organised until 1971 which was a landmark in the history of beauty contests. This time Carlsberg took their organisation and sponsorship and until 1988 Beauty Contests were taking place within the framework of the Carlsberg Festival.

Since 1989 Beauty Contests have been upgraded, enriched with all those elements necessary for live television broadcast, thus giving the opportunity to all the fans of this beautiful institution to enjoy it.
